Monday was our only day for sunshine and no rain. The day started out heavy with clouds, so we drove to Bayou La Batre for breakfast. Good decision because the clouds had dispersed and the sun made its appearance soon afterward. On the way back to Dauphin Island I noticed a bait and tackle shop with several fishing boats on both sides of the road. Dutifully, the husband pulled over and waited while I walked over to dozens of Brown Pelicans perched on wooden pilings. I was so close! It was amazing watching them fly in, preen and interact with each other. One of my favorite birds and the State bird of Louisiana.
