The husband and I are on our own this Thanksgiving Day, so we drove to LSU Lakes, one of our favorite birding spots. There, I spied a female American Wigeon all by herself under a cypress tree. An absolutely beautiful duck. She would have been my picture of the day, but a feisty Pied-billed Grebe began wrestling with a sacolait about 40 yards away. I thought there was no way he'd get that large fish down his throat. The husband had his binoculars and I had my camera trained on him, watching for several minutes as he successfully subdued, then swallowed the fish. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Mr. Grebe! And I bet you will be full the rest of the day.
We will be going to a restaurant here shortly for a 3-course meal. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!
