What a day! I left bible study early in order to get some photographs before the rains came. While observing a Little Blue Heron, my camera battery unexpectedly died. Aaargh. When I returned home, the sun decided to make an appearance, so I put in a fresh battery and made a second trip to LSU Lakes. By then, the sun was behind the clouds again.
Just as I was ready to pack it in, I noticed a lone, male Wood Duck among a large flock of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. He seemed to be catching something in the air, maybe bugs, and he'd also chase the Black-bellieds away occasionally. He was like a one man army. I snuck behind a tree and got several photographs. Had the light been better, I would've been happier with the shots, but this is the closest I'd ever been to a Wood Duck and was determined to make him my photo of the day. Just don't zoom in too close. :)
