There's an upscale cemetery close to my home with enormous statuary scattered throughout several acres. The Last Supper, the cross, praying hands, The Pieta, etc. is what I had in mind to shoot. But of course that's not what I ended up with! Before I got to the statues I stumbled upon a body of water with a pair of Mute Swans. The larger one (shown below) was outside the pond shooing his partner away from the food tray suspended over the water's edge. When I approached, the large one put his wings out in a menacing gesture and fluffed his feathers to show me who was boss. I inched my way closer because I felt sorry for the smaller, more slender swan who was attacked every time she tried to eat. My plan worked: after a while, the big one ended up in the water and they took turns at the food trough. I hope to go back and get them to pose as a "couple".
