124/366 | Orange Drop Butterfly Iris

A new addition to the backyard. Planted on Thursday and already blessed with two blooms on Sunday! Totally unexpected. The bloom is similar in some ways to the Fairy Iris, but much smaller. This perennial plant grows 2-3 feet wide and 3-4 feet tall. It is also cold and dought-tolerant--a big plus. The striking orange area is pretty and rough like a cat's tongue. Very happy with this purchase as I hadn't looked at the plant label, thinking I was getting the more common Dietes bi-color which has three pale yellow petals and a black dot on each one. Since I can't seem to locate the Fairy Iris at our local nurseries, this is a very welcome addition to the yard.
