Izabella Grace has advanced to the ripe old age of 14! In 2006 she was presented at the emergency pet clinic where I worked part time. She was one of three pups orphaned at about one day old. Three technicians each took one home to nurse; two boys and a girl. Izzy was the only one who survived. The technician who nursed her for seven weeks had a lot of cats, and I believe cat behavior was imprinted on Izzy's brain from the beginning. She paws her food and pounces before she eats it and she doesn't come when called.
At the time we adopted her we had four other dogs: Chance, a Finnish Spitz mix, Frasier, a Golden Retriever (pure-bred and an unruly beast), Leo, the Yorkie, another rescue with a head injury, and Sparky, a tri-colored Chihuahua mix, also a rescue. Izzy is the last one standing. And she's the only female dog I've ever owned. She weighs a little over 7 lbs. and walks slow due to a spinal deformity and old age. We love her to pieces though and can't imagine our lives without her.
This photoshoot did not go as planned. A nervous dog, a burning candle, a fussy husband who was in the way--it was all rushed and not at all how I wanted it to go. Oh well! I didn't get THE shot, but I got A shot and that's all I really care about. Happy birthday, Izzy Girl!
