On April 20 I documented a female Northern Cardinal with a crossed beak. On June 28, I observed a female Cardinal missing the top portion of her beak. I'm not sure if it's the same bird, but I guess it's possible.
Today the female with the missing beak returned after I spread seeds on the ground and filled the feeders. It appears she can scoop seeds up with her bottom beak. It is encouraging that she is still alive since I spotted her two weeks ago. I will continue to monitor.
Poor girl! I feel so sorry for her; especially when the other birds chase her away. She does seem a little thin, but is otherwise energetic and still able to care for her needs. God bless her!
