We had a glorious, heavy rain shower this afternoon. I was so thankful because an hour before, I fertilized my citrus trees, camellias, and bougainvilleas. Even though I watered it in, a good soaking from God is always preferable. After the rain, it cooled off enough for me to take a walk. About a mile in, the sun came out and the humidity returned with a vengeance. It felt like a sauna from hell.
Anyhow, I kept hearing horns and sirens blaring with people shouting in the distance, but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. As I approached the adjacent neighborhood, I soon saw what all the hullaballoo was about: A neighbor I do not know turned 90 years old today, so they had a social distancing party with the fire department participating. The yard was decked out with lights, streamers and a huge, custom sign. I stopped and chatted with the daughter as she was cleaning up the aftermath, offering my best wishes and congratulations. It was a nice conversation, even though I was drenched with sweat. She allowed me to take a picture with my phone.
